Creating the Shadowfire Stone (Shadowfire Weapons Part II)

Timer: 29 days
Rewards: 20 million XP and the Shadowfire Stone (can be used for a Shadow Slayer weapon or 20 million XP + Honorary Shadow Hunter title)
Weapons: Slashing, Bludgeoning, Fire, Cold and Shadow/Elemental Slayers
Difficulty: Hard
Quest Type: Boss Fight
Restrictions: 125+ and must have a Repaired Shadow Stone

In order to use this stone against its creators you must embark on a quest to explore an long-forgotten lab and workshop that was once owned by Lord Atlan, Lord Asheron’s father and the original slayer of shadows. This quest begins by letting Ciandra examine your Repaird Shadow Stone. She will be on the surface of Xarabydun in the Arcanum Consortium at 41.8s 15.8e.

You allow Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist to examine your Repaired Shadow Stone.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "I've found a way to alter these stones to work with an Isparian Weapon, but I need you to get something for me first. I've managed, in my research, to locate a possible location for one of Atlan's Workshops, where he made the first weapons we based the Isparian Weapons on."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "The portal should be at 66.9N 15.9E, along the outside of the Mt. Esper Caldera. Go there, and gather for me whatever information you can."

Head out to Neydisa Castle and head to the Empyrean Workshop at 66.9n 15.9e.

~ Empyrean Workshop ~
Coords: 66.9n 15.9e
Nearest Drop: Neydisa Castle
Level: 125+
Spawns: Wretcheds, Twisted Shadows, and Void Knights (Shadows)
Flagging: Must have given Ciandra the Repaired Shadow Stone to examine.
Weapons: Slashing, Bludgeoning, Fire, and Shadow/Elemental Slayers

Note: Once inside, tie to the surface portal for later

The drop is very safe to buff up and prepare for battle with the shadows that have infested the halls of this workshop, though they have proven unable to breach the protections Lord Atlan long ago put into place to protect the main lab.

Start off down the ramp and you will reach a small room with two ways you can go. Take the right passage and continue on through a series of small rooms with pits in them (it’s smart to lure the shadows toward the pits to trap them below you). You will come to another split. Take the right passage and stick left until you reach a large open room; head into the East passage and take the right passage. At the next split take the left passage and stick left until you go down 2 ramps. From there head West, going straight through an intersection and hitting a split. Either passage will take you to the first lines of defense Lord Atlan had put into place.

~ Boss ~
Name: Inner Chamber Guardian
Weak to: Slashing and Bludgeoning weapons.
Drops: Inner Chamber Key
Cohorts: Luminary Knights (Elementals)
Uses: Fire damage

This guardian, likely the very one Lord Asheron would later base his Diamond Guardians on, wields an Atlan Sword crafted by the forges of the Yalaini making it far more powerful than the weapons Silencia’s Magma Golem is able to create. Take it down and use Prismatic Weapons on the Knights. Loot a key and in the Southwest area of the room will be an Empyrean Notebook for you to pick up. Bring this back to Chandra (optional) who will ask you to bring it to Bretself for translating (required).

You allow Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist to examine your Empyrean Notebook.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "A notebook! This is just what I needed!"

Ciandra flips through the book quickly.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Hmmm... I know something of Empyrean, but this is beyond my ability to translate."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Take this to Bretself the Translator, in Cragstone. If anyone can translate this, he can."

Bretself resides in Cragstone at 26.0n 47.0e. He will happily translate this book for you.

You give Bretself the Translator Empyrean Notebook.

Bretself the Translator tells you, "Hmmm... This seems to be written in some sort of Empyrean Code."
Bretself the Translator tells you, "I can translate it into recognizable characters, but I can't make heads or tails of it. Seems Atlan didn't want other people reading his notes."

Bretself the Translator gives you Atlan's Coded Notebook.

Bring this back to Ciandra who wil lbe able to decipher the code for you.

You give Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist Atlan's Coded Notebook.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Ahh, the translated tome! Wonderful!"

Ciandra examines the book intently.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "This is going to take a bit of work, but this first part here is a magical "key" to enter Atlan's Laboratory. I'll attune you to the wards, so you can gain entrance. Go in there and see what you can find."

Ciandra chants quietly, and a soft glow infuses your skin for a moment.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Be careful in there. If these wards are any indication, Atlan was more than capable of setting up his lab to be well defended."

Head back to the Empyrean Workshop and go back through to where you fought the Inner Chamber Guardian and use the Inner Chamber Key you picked up earlier on the Inner Chamber Door behind the guardian golem. There you will find the conveyance device that leads to Atlan’s Laboratory.

~ Atlan’s Laboratory ~
Coords: N/A
Nearest Drop: Empyrean Workshop
Level: 125+
Spawns: Incendiary Knights (Elementals)
Flagging: Must have given Ciandra Atlan’s Coded Notebook.
Weapons: Slashing, Cold and Elemental Slayers

The drop will have an Incendiary Knight welcoming you. The Yalain were never seen as those who used Elementals like the Elemental Disciples of Dericost did. These elementals, however, seem to be made more like golems with fire being used in lieu of more tangible materials and not like the wild incarnations of fire that were created by those disciples.

From the drop you will head along the passages which will open up into a large, open room with a pit in the middle. Vuln and imperil from above then jump down and lay waste to the knights clamouring about in defense of the lab. From there take the North passage and stick right until you reach a large open room filled with more knights. From here head to the North wall and take the passage to the Eastern tunnels. Ignore the first right-hand split and then stick right in order to reach the lower levels of the lab where the primary forge lies.

Note: When you reach the suspended bridges you may jump off of them to the next level below you if you wish to not travel along the switch-back corridors.

Magma has since risen a bit into the lowest levels of the lab but your target lies above the magma on a small platform that actually serves as the roof of the primary forge before half-sunken in lava.

~ Boss ~
Name: Atlan's Crafting Golem
Weak to: Cold
Drops: Damaged Stone Infusers (5)
Cohorts: Incendiary Knights (Elementals)
Uses: Everything a Magma Golem uses (Bludgeoning damage and fire war spells)

Note: If the golem falls into the magma head into the Western passage deep enough so that the golem will rest. If you prefer you can jump into the magma and fight from a passage that will lead you back up into the corridors whence you came.

This “boss” is similar to the Behemoth of Tenkarrdun in that it’s just a large Magma Golem (That’s likely why it could create such powerful Atlan Weapons that make our own look horribly weak in comparison). Take it down quickly.

Your assault sends Atlan's Crafting Golem to an icy death!
You hear the grinding sound of twisting metal as the golem falls

Bring the Damaged Stone Infuser to Ciandra and she will reward you for your findings and repair your infuser. She will also give you instructions for using the infuser in conjunction with the Repaired Shadow Stone to create a weapon that will aid in the fight against the shadows.

You give Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist Damaged Stone Infuser.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Perfect! This is just the tool mentioned in these notes."

Ciandra examines the Damaged Stone Infuser.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "It's been damaged... This will complicate things slightly. Ahh, this is bent too far over here... This part will need to be reset... there."

You've earned 20,000,000 experience.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist gives you Repaired Stone Infuser.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist gives you Ciandra's Stone Infuser Instructions.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "There you go, it should work now, but those repairs have made it rather fragile. It'll work as it needs to, but I don't think it'll survive more than one use."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "The book will tell you how to use it. You'll need two Decanters of Essence to make the process work. The first, you will need to bring, along with a Repaired Shadow Stone, to the Shade of Farelaith, in Northern Osteth. He can be found at 74.3N, 58.6E. The second you will need for charging the Stone Infuser. The information is all in the book."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "If you don't have two Decanters of Essence, my Apprentice can direct you in how to get some.

The book is very detailed and will tell you how to create the Shadowfire Stone as well as how to make a Shadowfire Isparian Weapon.

~ Ciandra's Stone Infuser Instructions ~

Using the Repaired Stone Infuser:

The process is fairly simple, as the tool itself does most of the work. Firstly, you'll need a Repaired Stone Infuser. Secondly, you'll need a Decanter of Essence. If you need Decanters of Essence, my Apprentice in Xarabydun can direct you in how to get some.

To charge the Repaired Stone Infuser, simply use the Decanter of Essence on it. This will charge the Stone Infuser, which will be ready for the next step.

The Shadowfire Stone:

To create a usable Shadowfire Stone, you will need the following two items: a Charged Stone Infuser, and a Dormant Shadowfire Stone. The dormant stone can be acquired by bringing a Repaired Shadow Stone and a Decanter of Essence to the Shade of Farelaith, on the northeast coast of Osteth. He should be located at 74.3N, 58.6E. Give him the repaired stone first, and then the decanter. He has graciously agreed to do the rest.

Once you have both a Charged Stone Infuser and a Dormant Shadowfire Stone, all you need to do is use the charged Infuser on the dormant stone. The Mana in the Infuser will awaken the Shadowfire Stone. This will, unfortunately, destroy the Stone Infuser, but there seems to be a good number of them in Atlan's Laboratory, so more can be gathered. Please limit yourself to once a month for these, as we don't want to use up the supply.

Once you have a Shadowfire Stone, you can use it with any unstoned Perfect Isparian Weapon to make a Shadowfire Isparian Weapon. There are a couple of important notes about this.

First, the Shadowfire Stone doesn't fit into any Atlan Weapon. It just doesn't work. Second, the Shadowfire Stone only seems to work with the most perfect of Isparian Weapons. It will not set into the lesser versions of the weapons. Lastly, and most importantly, once the Shadowfire Stone is set into an Isparian Weapon, the change is both dramatic and PERMANENT. The entire structure of the weapon changes, and there is no tool that will remove the stone once it is set in place.

If you decide to make the Shadowfire Stone, but not use or keep it, I have been informed that Sarkin Killcrane, in Wai Jhou, will reward people for them.

-Ciandra

The Shade of Farelaith is found by taking the Haliana Settlement portal near Cragstone at 26.2n 46.3e and then running to 74.3n 58.6e. You will need 2 Decanters of Essence. Here is how to make the stone:

Decanter of Essence + Repaired Stone Infuser = Charged Stone Infuser

You pour the Decanter of Essence into the Repaired Stone Infuser, which begins to hum with power.

You give Shade of Farelaith Repaired Shadow Stone.

Shade of Farelaith tells you, "You must be from the mortal, Ciandra. She sent her apprentice to ask my aid in altering these stones. I can aid you, but I will need a source of Pure Mana to do so. The act of setting these stones against their creators is draining on my spirit, and would soon end my existence without the aid of the Mana."
Shade of Farelaith tells you, "I'll hold onto this, and make the preparations to this stone. Get for me a Decanter of Essence. They hold enough power for me to complete the process."

You give Shade of Farelaith Decanter of Essence.

Shade of Farelaith tells you, "Ahh, yes mortal, this will do."

Farelaith drains the decanter. Glowing slightly, he focuses his anger against the Shadows into the Repaired Shadow Stone. The last, minor flaws in the crystal disappear, and the stone now radiates a gentle warmth, where before it was cold.

Shade of Farelaith tells you, "There, this should meet your needs, and be an instrument of my vengeance as well. Here"

Shade of Farelaith gives you Dormant Shadowfire Stone.

Charged Stone Infuser + Dormant Shadowfire Stone = Shadowfire Stone

You use the Charged Stone Infuser on the Dormant Shadowfire Stone. The Infuser crackles with energy and shatters as the power fills the now complete Shadowfire Stone.

If you wish to create a weapon then:

Shadowfire Stone + Perfect Isparian Weapon = Shadowfire Isparian Weapon

You slip the Shadowfire Stone into the setting for it. The Weapon crystallizes and turns black, permanently becoming a Shadowfire Weapon.

If you do not want the weapon then go to Sarkin Killcrane who resides in Wai Jhou at 61.9s 51.5w and give him the Shadowfire Stone to use in the Knights of the Golden Flame’s fight against the shadows.

You give Sarkin Killcrane Shadowfire Stone.
Sarkin Killcrane examines the Shadowfire Stone.

Sarkin Killcrane tells you, "This will be a great aid to the Knights of the Golden Flame. I thank you for this. Allow me to give you something in return."

You've earned 20,000,000 experience.

Sarkin Killcrane tells you, "For your generosity, I hereby grant you the title of Honorary Shadow Hunter."

Good luck in your fight against the shadows!
